About this trip

Northern Baja Overlanding Adventure

A 6 Day Expedition

September is a true transition month in Northern Baja and one of the most rewarding times to explore the region. The light softens, sunsets are some of the best of the year, and the peninsula starts to cool down after summer. Nights are often crisp and comfortable, while days in the central desert can still bring some heat depending on the year. It is classic Baja shoulder season and it delivers.

This 6 day, fully guided overland journey covers roughly 800 to 1,000 miles through Northern and Central Baja California. The route focuses on the volcanic landscapes around San Quintín and the high elevations of the Sierra de San Pedro Mártir, linking together desert, mountains, and coastline. If conditions allow, we may even catch views of the Sea of Cortez, giving you a rare look at both sides of the peninsula on a single trip.

Expect a constantly changing landscape. One day you are driving through volcanic terrain and wide open desert, the next you are climbing into pine forested mountains or camping along the Pacific with nothing but surf and stars for company.

What to Expect

Scenic Exploration
Travel through volcanic fields, rugged mountain passes, central desert, and dramatic coastal terrain, with big elevation changes and expansive views throughout the trip.

Remote Camping & Dark Skies

Driving Focused Adventure
This is a true driving trip. Miles of dirt, varied terrain, and routes that reward those who enjoy being behind the wheel.

Guided Along the Way
As we travel, our guides use our Midland radio system to share local history, geology, and points of interest you would drive right past on your own.

Run for the Border – Farewell to Baja

On our final day of adventure, we’ll enjoy one last breakfast in camp, savoring the last moments of tranquility before we begin the journey back north. After packing up and saying goodbye to the stunning landscapes of Baja, we’ll hit the road for our fun drive back toward the U.S. border.

The drive north will take us through the diverse Baja countryside as we make our way to Tecate, one of the border crossings that marks the end of our epic journey. Along the way, we’ll reflect on the incredible experiences and memories made during the trip—whether it was camping under the stars by the Sea of Cortez, exploring ancient rock art in the desert, or summiting a dormant volcano overlooking the Pacific.

Expect to reach the border between 2-4 PM, where we’ll assist you through the final steps of crossing into the United States. As always, we’ll be with you every step of the way, ensuring a smooth and stress-free crossing back into U.S. soil.

Once safely across the border, we’ll say our final goodbyes, leaving you with a treasure trove of memories from this unforgettable overlanding adventure through Baja California.
